History Center Events

The History Center of Olmsted County offers a variety of events throughout the year. Scroll down to see our recurring events. Not all of our events are listed below, so be sure to watch our Calendar so you don't miss anything! As a non-profit, our events are only possible with the support of the community! If you would like to sponsor an event, call the History Center at 507-282-9447, or contact us by email.

Winterfest 2019

Join us for some winter fun February 2, 2018 at Winterfest! Bundle up to enjoy the cold bite of winter.

The Rochester Area Special Olympics will provide horse-drawn sleigh rides on the History Center grounds from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM with free will donations gratefully accepted.

You can warm up inside the History Center with crafts and cocoa! No pre-registration required, children are $5.00 and their accompanying guardian is free!

Indoor History Center activities for Winterfest will be Saturday, February 2, 2019, from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M.


Living History Fair 2019

Living History Fair is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, July 20 and 21, 2019

Movies Under the Stars 2019

Grab your lawn chairs and picnic blankets and head on over to the History Center for Movies Under the Stars! There’s pop, popcorn, and candy available for purchase, and a family friendly movie for your viewing pleasure beginning at dusk. Occasionally there will be pre-movie events, so be sure to get there early (denoted below).

Admission is $5.00. Seniors and children under 12 get in free! For conservation purposes, please refrain from bringing any pets, coolers, or picnic baskets onto the History Center Grounds.

Harvest Moon Fall Festival- Thursday October 17, 2019 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Every October, the History Center gets autumn-awesome with our Harvest Moon Fall Festival. This event is family-friendly, and often features things like scarecrow decorating, pumpkin painting, apple cider pressing, sauerkraut stomping, and much more!

The cost to attend is $5.00 per child and FREE for parents or accompanying adults. This year’s festival will be held on Thursday October 17, 2019, 1-3 pm.


Adult Scavenger Hunt- October 26, 2019

Discover the local food, drink, and history of Olmsted County with the History Center's Annual Adult Scavenger Hunt. You and three friends will chase leads to restaurants, bars, and other area attractions. Afterward, join your competitors for an awards ceremony where prizes will be awarded!

If you are interested in participating, please read the Adult Scavenger Hunt Instructions. Pre-registration is required and can be done by filling out the Registration Form and returning it to the History Center in person or by e-mail. 

** We are currently in need of adult volunteers for the Scavenger Hunt to hand out packets at local bar/restaurants. Please contact Aaron at programs@olmstedhistory.com for more information!**

We are always looking for Scavenger Hunt sponsors, please call the History Center if you would like to donate! Becoming a sponsor gives you an opportunity to advertise on our website and also our Scavenger Hunt literature and clues!  Teams must register by 5pm October 19, 2019.
